Greasemonkey (and Platypus) scripts
Here are a couple of scripts I couldn't browse without in Firefox and which may be useful to others. Most of them have been built with Platypus, the amazing extension to build Greasemonkey scripts without much if any coding.
Of course, you need the browser and both extensions to make the scripts work.
- Turning the home page of Techmeme into something more concise and to my taste : techmemeheadlines.user.js
- I like the Google Search Sidebar for FF3 script showing Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, Flickr, and Youtube results next to any Google search. However the dictionary does not seem to work out of the box and I found the sidebar to small on the right hand side of the screen for my 16:10 screen so I tweaked it: google_search_sidebar_fo.user.js
- And then I created one version for Yahoo! Search: yahoo_search_sidebar_for.user.js
- I used to be a reasonably happy user of Mobical.net, a free service to synchronize your mobile data (mostly calendar and contacts) via SyncML. However, I seriously disliked the new layout of the site introduced in the last quarter of 2005. So here is a script to improve (at least to me) how Mobical uses the screen estate: mobical.user.js. But I am not using Mobical anymore so I have no idea of the script still works.
Bookmarklets
In most cases below, I am almost embarrassed to share the thing. These bookmarlets have been built as less-than-a-minute hacks to help a friend or myself when little things were missing in the browsing experience. If you are interested, drag and drop the links below to your browser's bookmarks toolbar.
- Open Same Site is designed to open another copy of your current page.
